Day 1
I started smoking when I was about 15, I'm 29 now. My friends and I thought it was "cool", so we used to pinch cigarettes from our parents.
I knew I needed to stop when I discovered I was pregnant. I went to see my midwife and she told me about the 'stop smoking service'. I asked to be referred and I joined one of the groups. I wasn't worried about people judging me for smoking because I was pregnant, I don't worry about things like that and I wouldn't have had to anyway because everyone on the group was really supportive including the advisers Deborah and Ian.
It was good that there was a whole group of us doing it together, we all offered each other support. The advisers gave us plenty of information about the products available to help us stop and which would best suit each indiidual. Before this I hadn't tried anything before so was really pleased with the support we were given.
I quit on November 14th 2009. Since then I've been better off financially and I don't wheeze anymore when I get up in the mornings. My children don't moan about the smell on me anymore!
Only quit if you're ready, no one can make you do it, but once you have you feel so much better about yourself. I love being able to call myself a "non-smoker".
