Their Story: Barbara was being treated at the hospital for claudication and was strongly advised by the Vascular Team to quit smoking. After discussion with her, her consultant (Dr Andrews) referred her to Medway Stop Smoking Service (MSSS). Due to her poor health and mobility, Mrs Hood used the Acute Telephone Support Service provided by MSSS. After discussion with her Smoking Cessation Advisor, Mrs Hood decided to use nicotine patches and an inhalator. Her quit date was 15/11/2008 and she has been smokefree ever since!
Day 49
I thought the telephone service was great. The Advisors were charming, dedicated and sympathetic. They didn’t criticise and I was very grateful for the support I received. It made the process of quitting ‘painless’; everything you needed was just sent to you in the post and I then just had to take my prescription to my local pharmacy. This service would even be great for someone who works long hours and therefore has very little time because it’s so simple to use. There are pharmacies all over Medway that accept the NRT vouchers – it’s easy! I feel so much better and my consultant at Medway Hospital has now discharged me!
